A preset is a collection of settings, not a certificate of compliance. Before using any EA on a prop account, compare the software’s behavior with the exact rules for your firm, account type and evaluation phase.
Start with permission
Check whether the firm permits the EA, its trading style and the way signals are generated. Do not assume that permission for one product or account automatically applies to another. Keep a record of the terms you checked.
Understand the drawdown calculation
Find out what the firm measures, when the day resets and how open positions affect the limit. Then compare that definition with the EA’s documented loss controls. Two settings with the same percentage can behave differently if their reference values differ.
Map news and holding restrictions
Review restrictions around scheduled events, overnight positions, weekends and specific instruments. A news filter needs an appropriate source, time zone and buffer to reflect the restriction you are trying to implement. It cannot guarantee that every relevant event will be identified.
Leave room for execution differences
Order fills can differ from the price shown when an action was requested. Understand how the software behaves when a stop or boundary is reached, including any delay before the next check. Avoid treating a displayed threshold as a guaranteed maximum loss.
Recheck after changes
A software, broker, account, preset or rule change can invalidate a previous assumption. Revisit the mapping whenever one of those inputs changes. Record the version and date so that you know which configuration you actually tested.
